SUPPORTING NATURE
We’ve said no to “More Stuff” and yes to less carbon emissions
In mid-2023, as part of our Climate Action plan commitments, we assessed all the carbon emissions TTC Tour Brands produced. As part of that review, we discovered that the branded merchandise our brands give away throughout the year equated to an extra 2,500 tonnes of carbon emissions globally – that’s the equivalent of 6.5 million car-driven miles. Given our commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, it was critical we changed our approach.
As of December 2023, TTC Tour Brands will no longer purchase branded merchandise designed to be given away and instead, reallocate those funds to projects that fight climate change.
Instead, we’re donating to PROJECTS that fight climate change
Where we would have given branded merchandise away, instead throughout 2024 we’ll transition that investment made on behalf of our guests, trade partners or internal team members to supporting nature . The projects we’ll donate to are nature-based climate solutions supported by our TreadRight Foundation already. These are initiatives designed to support natures abilities to combat climate change. They are:
1. GreenWave – Kelp Climate Fund
Every donation will fund the planting of 40lbs* of kelp across regenerative ocean farms in North America. Kelp offers a powerful and scalable carbon drawdown solution that can capture and store carbon as well as support economies and global food systems – the definition of a nature-based solution to climate change.
*based on estimated average yield, which can vary
2. Rainforest Rescue – Project Daintree
Each donation to Rainforest Rescue contributes to the growing of 8 rainforest seedlings, which will go on to regenerate approximately 1 square metre (107.7 feet) of Australia’s Daintree Rainforest (the world’s longest continually evolving rainforest) which will preserve biodiversity and remove carbon from the atmosphere through planting, maintenance and restoration programs. This is done in partnership with traditional landowners, the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.
POSITIVE IMPACT
♦ By no longer purchasing branded merchandise designed to give away, we’ll be preventing 6.5 million car-driven miles worth of carbon emissions from ever entering the atmosphere.
♦ By repurposing the funds we would have allocated to this, and investing in projects that fight climate change, we’ll remove a further 1.5 million car-driven miles worth of carbon emissions from the atmosphere.
As a collective, through this exciting change, we’ll be doing our part to support the planet to absorb carbon and keep warming below 1.5° C by mid-century.
THE POWER OF NATURE
Nature-based solutions are initiatives which work for and with nature to address issues facing the environment, society and, ultimately, biodiversity. They include the conservation and restoration of natural spaces, and improved land management to either reduce carbon emissions or to store carbon in the planet. Nature based solutions involve local communities to reduce vulnerability of local communities to the adverse effects of climate change.
